Vacation Bible School
School is out for summer vacation, but the children of Calvary Chapel Montebello couldn’t wait for a different kind of school: Vacation Bible School. Over 200 children slowly filled Kid’s World with the anticipation and eager excitement for five full days of worship music, dramas, crafts, bible studies, games, and of course, new friends.
Grace Torres, overseer and coordinator of VBS 2008, poured tirelessly unto finding the perfect curriculum, organizing 30 volunteers, and decorating the converted warehouse into an “Amazon Exhibition.” The journey through time educated children ranging from ages 6-12 about the exciting journey through a growing Christian faith.
As the days progressed, children were engaged through live drama, hands-on crafts, and physical activities to teach them principles to live by. “It was a blessing to know that kids who don’t sometimes have the ability to come to church are able to come during this week and learn so much,” said Lulu Marquez, aunt of two attendees. In addition to the gamut of activities, each child was provided a free lunch so as to ensure they left both physically and spiritually full!
As the days waned to an end and decorations were pulled down, Grace began to speak about VBS 2009. Not deterred by the stress and pressure of such a successful event, she anticipates more children next year and is excited to outreach to the surrounding community. Though wearied from the long week, Grace’s eyes are filled with excitement as she states, “Next year, we are going to put together a team to outreach to our area and invite both Christian and non-Christian children to hear about the Lord.”
For more information about VBS 2009, information will be posted in the bulletin and on the web.
